While their scientific name is Eisenia fetida, the composting red worm is known by various names such as red wigglers, redworms, manure worms, trout worms, tiger worms, or composting worms. Whatever name you use, the red wiggler is the best worm available for your organic garden.

For gardeners, our composting Red Worms are the best earthworms that money can buy at creating worm manure, known as worm castings. Whether added directly to your garden, or added to a composter, your Red Worms will enrich your garden. Whether you are growing prized roses, or vegetables to feed your family, Red Worms are the best way to enhance the soil, either directly, or indirectly through composting.

Red Worms thrive best in a bedding of relatively moist (75-85% moisture) biodegradable materials. Cocunut Coir and shredded paper or newspaper is a good start for a Red Worm bed. Also suitable are shredded leaves, dried grass clippings, and manure. Add fruits and vegetable waste, tea bags, coffee grounds, eggshells, etc. Please avoid oils and other fatty foods, meats, dairy, citrus fruits, and anything spicy including onions and garlic. Redworms do best when in tempatrures between 60-80 degrees fareinheit, but can tolerate extremes on either side of the ideal.

You can buy our red worms for $34.95 for 1000 or buy up 5000 to save more on a per thousand basis. For a limited time, we are offering free shipping on all of our earthworms!

While their scientific name is Eisenia Hortensis, the European Nightcrawler is known by other various names such as Trout Worms, Panfish Worms, Leaf Worms, Jumbo Red Worms, Dutch Worms, Super Reds, or most commonly, Euro's. In any given name, the Euro is an excellent worm for you anglers, or they make short work of composting kitchen waste into worm castings, making you organic gardeners happy!

Sometimes known as the Red Worm's bigger cousin, the European Nightcrawler can grow to about twice as large as the Red Worm and can serve a number of purposes. This makes the European Nightcrawler a jack of all trades earthworm. He's just as happy hanging out on the end of your fishing pole just waiting to be eaten by a beautiful trout, as he is milling around your garden or compost bin eating his way through your organic waste. Okay, maybe he's not as happy - but our customers sure are!

European Nightcrawlers can grow to as large as 7 or even 8 inches at full maturuity with the average being around 5 inches in length. The biggest  and fattest among them may be as wide as a pencil. For you anglers, the Euro is a very active wriggler. Any panfish will love to take a nibble, and he's especially suitable for sunfish, bass, walleye, or the aforementioned trout. But almost any species of fish that enjoys a worm snack will go for the European Nightcrawler.

For organic gardeners, Euro's have a good appetite! They are an excellent earthworm for your composter, and live happily alongside Red Worms in the same composting bin. Like their slightly smaller cousin, the Red Worm, the Euro is excellent at creating worm castings, also called worm manure or worm poop. They don't eat quite as much as a Red Worm, but these worms eat plenty enough to make nutrient-rich worm castings to add to your organic garden.

If you don't have a composting bin, don't worry because the European Nightcrawler enjoys being added directly into your garden where they will go about aerating and enhancing the soil while munching on grass, leaves, and other organic decaying matter.

The European Nightcrawler is also an excellent earthworm to start your very own mini worm farm. They breed quickly, and new hatchlings become mature breeders at about 13 weeks of age. Under the most ideal circumstances, you can double your worm population roughly every 3 months. As always, your mileage may vary! Like anything else, there are variables that will impact reproduction rates such as sources of food, moisutres condition of the bedding, and the ambient temperature.

You can buy our red worms for $32.95 for 1 lb or buy up 5 lbs to save more per pound! if you have larger needs. For a limited time, we are offering free shipping on all of our earthworms!

The African Nightcrawler (Eudrilus Eugeniae) earns it's name easily. This earthworm hales from the hot region of West Africa. For that reason, these wrigglers are quite cold sensitive and are not suitable for colder climates or the winter in general, without added heating.

While the African is a fantastic earthworm for our friends in the south, it's still possible to raise African's in cooler climates if you are able to house African night crawlers indoors, such as an enclosed garage or barn. It's important to monitor their bedding temperatures in these conditions. Once bedding temperature falls much below 60 F, they are in danger of dying off.

Other than potential hardiness issues, the African Nightcrawler has a lot of attributes that make it a great all-around choice for vermicomposting or fishing alike.

African Nightcrawlers have a distinctive mix of a grey and purple coloring and grow to over twice the size of red worms, These are large, muscular worms that produce very large worm castings, and are known to do so faster than any other Earthworm! For that reason, they are a star for the southern organic gardener.

If left uncrowded in their worm bin, with plenty of room to roam they will become very plump (and tasty) to any hungry fish! And they need no refrigeration at all.

They can tolerate a fairly hot environment, although like any other living organism, they have their upper limits so care still needs to be taken not to overheat them. We recommend that worm bins not reach more than 85 degrees, although they may be able to take 90 degrees for short periods of time.

You can buy African Nightcrawlers for $34.95 for 1 lb. Or purchase up 5 lbs and save more per pound! For a limited time, we are offering free shipping on all of our earthworms!
